My Favourite Relaxing Games

A lot of people fantasize during a stressful day about being home with a warm cup of tea and a nice book, snuggled up on the couch. For me, I dream about being snuggled up with a controller or my computer and getting into a nice video game. Some games can be intense and perhaps get the adrenaline pumping, but some can take you to a far away journey to a comfy, quiet place. Here is a list of my favourite wind-down games to settle down with.

Animal Crossing

Animal Crossing is a game where you can play by your own rules. Catch bugs? Sure! Pick apples? Why not! Sit back and relax while you stroll through your virtual town, enjoying your neighbors company as you decorate your house. It is a laid back game with it’s own virtual world to escape to. I personally can feel the stress melt away as I pick every weed I can find in my own little town while planting flowers in my garden. You have your own creative freedom and you can do whatever you please. Sounds like paradise to me.

Minecraft

Minecraft is one of the most popular games out there, and it’s popularity is well-deserved. This stress-releasing game lets you explore, craft and build in a beautiful square world with it’s own square wildlife. This game encourages creativity with the ability to collect materials and use them to craft and build things like your very own house. The music itself is very soothing and the free build mode lets your imagination run wild with unlimited resources for building anything from a cabin to a castle. I could sit there and build for hours.

The Sims

A lot of people around my age grew up playing The Sims, myself included, and something we all seem to agree on is that its easy to get sucked into. Losing yourself in creating a family and building their house is a great pastime, and something I find very relaxing to sit down and spend time on. There are four base games, each of them having many expansion packs to choose from, as well as community created content that is usually free to download. Just downloading mods is a fun and relaxing pastime. The freedom in The Sims games gives you the power to control your sim’s lives and it can get pretty messy, but in the best ways. Sometimes I just like to use the character creator and make unique characters for drawing inspiration.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

This is the first proper Zelda game I have played through, still unfinished, and I’m in love with it. There is combat and exciting parts but just going around collecting ingredients to cook a meal or trying to find the perfect horse to call your own is a great experience. The open world in this game has a beautiful, aesthetically pleasing style that I find myself getting lost in frequently. Many players can agree that exploring can take up just as many hours as the main quests, maybe even more. It’s a huge, lovely game that deserves the Game of the Year award it received.

Video games are one of my personal passions, and it’s great to find games that are a safe, familiar place to go to when you just want to relax. I hope you enjoyed this list of my most relaxing games. Which titles would you add to the list?
